Communicable Disease Prevention
Fergus County Public Health Communicable Disease Prevention efforts help protect the public from the spread of communicable diseases through:

• Education, reporting and tracking of communicable diseases
• Notification response
• Management of outbreaks

Communicable diseases include: Vaccine preventable diseases, Sexually Transmitted Diseases (STDs), Influenza, Pertussis, Norovirus, West Nile Virus, Foodborne illness and others.  We assist clients who have a communicable disease and those who may have been exposed to one by providing resources, education and information about these diseases and how to avoid their spread.

COVID-19 Vaccines
COVID-19 vaccines continue to be remarkably effective in reducing risk of severe disease, hospitalization, and death, including against known variants. People who are fully vaccinated continue to get highly effective protection against hospitalizations and severe outcomes from COVID-19.

Fergus County Health Department offers COVID vaccines as recommended by the CDC. Call our office for available appointment times 406-535-7433.

You can get a COVID-19 vaccination, along with a seasonal flu shot.

Fergus County Health Department (FCHD) assists in coordinating activities in a public health crisis or emergency situation in Fergus County. Our work involves research, training and education, simulated exercises, public information and response.

FCHD provides and supports planning with community partners. During a public health emergency, FCHD plays a vital role in maintaining the health of our communities by preventing the spread of disease or reduce the impact of a major health risk. FCHD strives to provide timely and effective information about the
situation and medical treatment.

FCHD works to have strong relationships with other community first-responder organizations, by working together before an incident, we can more effectively respond and communicate during a public health threat.

The Fergus County Health Department (FCHD) provides our communities with protection from diseases through immunization services. Vaccines help prevent diseases that used to be the top killer of children in this country. Maintaining high rates of childhood immunizations protects not only vaccinated children, but also those too young or too ill to have completed their full series of immunizations. A reduction in immunization rates inevitably results in an increase in disease. Therefore, immunizations are crucial to the health and safety of the community at large.

FCHD conducts daycare immunization record reviews to ensure compliance with the State of Montana immunization laws. FCHD offers traveling and school based immunization clinics for children and adults.

Immunizations are available at the Fergus County Health Department Monday thru Friday 9 am to 4:30 pm. Appointments are suggested (406- 535-7433) but not required. Please note that the nurse's schedule is subject to change.

NO CHILD IS DENIED VACCINES DUE TO INABILITY TO PAY!

FCHD participates in the Vaccine for Children program offering federally funded vaccines for children age 0 - 18 for routine childhood vaccines.

Immunization Laws

Montana has enacted laws that require children to have certain immunizations before entering school or day care.

• MT Immunization requirements for school - In order to be enrolled in school, children must have the required vaccines by age.
• MT Immunization requirements for daycare - Immunization requirements for day care attendance are based on the child's age and generally follow the recommended childhood schedule.
